Sports and Politics: strange bedfellows

After all these years, it’s still hard for me to grasp how far pro football’s influence reaches. The game’s footprints are all over the American landscape, including the country’s politics. Born Fanatic describes some examples from decades ago. More recently, a Seattle city council woman fanned the Kaepernick issue when she wrote an open letter to Seahawk management endorsing Kaepernick as a free agent signing. His jersey is going to the Smithsonian, after all.

Research says pro sports can change political attitude. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
